BEFORE AN INJECTION

The face has high vascularity. So bruising is not uncommon and can occur in at least 1 out of 5 sharp needle injection points.
Before you undergo an aesthetic injection such as botox/fillers/skin boosters/injector gun/RF needling treatment/ thread lifts, here are some basic preparatory steps you can take:

Pre-Treatment Advice

  • Avoid blood thinners/NSAIDs/health supplements/alcohol for 5 days prior to the procedure to reduce bruising.
  • Inform your doctor in advance if you are taking any other medications so that suitable advice can be given.
  • Inform the doctor beforehand if you bruise easily so that extra steps can be taken.

Post-Treatment Advice

  • Avoid sleeping on your face and strenuous exercises for the first week.
  • Avoid travelling for first 2 days post-injection.
  • Avoid facials and strong energy treatments on the treated area like RF/HIFU/fractional lasers for first 2 weeks.
  • For bruises on the face it is best to ice the area 2-3 times a day for the first 24 hours.
  • Avoid applying heat or rubbing hard on it as the bruise can spread.
  • You can apply hirudoid or arnica cream to help speed up the healing.
  • Supplements containing arnica may help.
 

BEFORE ANY ENERGY-BASED TREATMENT

Pigement Laser, Pico Laser, Fractional Laser, Ablative Laser, IPL, Fat Freeze, Thermage (RF) and HIFU

Pre-Treatment Advice

  • Hydrate your skin well for 5-7 days by using a moisturiser twice daily.
  • Avoid applying peeling ingredient/acid-based/retinol products to your skin or scrubbing for at least 2 weeks.
  • Certain oral medications like roaccutane, doxycycline, hormones, anti-cancer medications, blood pressure or sugar control pills etc can make your skin sensitive to energy-based treatments, so please inform the doctor about any medications you have taken before starting the treatment.

Postpone the treatment for at least 2 weeks if you are having:

  • Itch, rashes, redness.
  • Infection like acne or pustules.
  • Recently sunburnt.
  • Painful sensation or discomfort on your skin.
  • Let the doctor assess for you before starting the treatment if you have any concerns.

Post-Treatment Advice

  • Moisturise your skin 2 times a day for at least one week.
  • Hydrating reparative mask treatments are recommended.
  • Apply any prescribed creams accordingly.
  • Avoid UV exposure for 2 weeks.
  • Apply sunscreen above SPF25 2 times daily.
  • Avoid peeling or scrubbing your skin for 2 weeks.
  • Avoid harsh products on your skin like peeling substance, acid, retinol for 2 weeks.
  • Avoid harsh energy treatments for minimum 2 weeks or longer.
